Contraband is Made by Many More People Than Just Cause 4
We learned that over 150 people are working on Contraband. That's 50% more than on Just Cause 4, Avalanche's previous title.
- Contraband is being developed by more than 150 people;
- By comparison, the team responsible for Just Cause 4, another game by Avalanche, counted a hundred people.
One of the titles revealed during this year's Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase turned out to be Contraband - an open-world co-op action game, which is being developed by Avalanche Studios, the creators of, among others. Rage 2, Mad Max and the Just Cause. Now we've learned that the team behind this project is over 150 people.
Thus, we already know that this is a high-budget production and Microsoft is not going to skimp on it. This makes sense, as it will be a title exclusive to PC and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
This number only includes developers working at the studio's branches located in Stockholm and New York. Avalanche is also probably using outsourcing, as this is now the standard for AAA games, so in reality the total number of people working on the game may be higher.
In comparison, the team involved in Just Cause 4 was 100 people. Contraband has a chance to turn out to be the biggest project in Avalanche's output.
It's not known when the game will hit the market. The title is most likely at an early stage of development, as during the aforementioned Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase only a CG trailer was shown, not gameplay. Two months ago, Venture Beat's usually very well-informed journalist Jeff Grubb reported that, according to his sources, the release of Contraband is planned for 2023.
