Recently, the developers of Company of Heroes 3 are sharing more and more footage from the game. In the last such reveal, the developers boasted, among other things, the quality of graphics in the upcoming production.
This time, however, they decided to show off the operation of the already refined destruction system. Thanks to it, the battlefield will change with every bullet fired.
Destruction on unprecedented scale
The above video enables us to assume that Company of Heroes 3 will have one of the most realistic destruction systems ever used in RTS games. The game can probably be compared only with Iron Harvest, which also boasted achievements in this field.
In CoH3 every explosion or gunshot will be connected with changes on the battlefield. Buildings will have bullet holes, small gaps or huge gaps. Having taken enough lead, parts of a building or the entire structure will be demolished.
Moreover, it will not depend on the specific HP of the building. Structures on the battlefield will feel the attacks in a more realistic way. Destruction will affect the places where the bullets/shells hit.
Buildings will only collapse when their structure is damaged in a truly severe manner. Even then, they'll act in different ways depending on the area of damage. Sometimes they'll collapse in on themselves, and other times they'll slide into the street, covering it in debris.
Moreover, tiles and bricks flying around will endanger the surrounding soldiers. Infantry will be susceptible to debris falling from the sky, which will be able to inflict heavy damage or even eliminate individual units from combat.
We'll be able to find out about that for ourselves after the game's release later this year. CoH3 will be released only on PC.
