CoH3 Improves After Developers Gain Independence from Sega
Relic Entertainment released a major update to Company of Heroes 3. As part of patch 1.8, players received three new maps and many gameplay balance changes.
There is no denying that the Relic Entertainment studio is struggling with serious problems. Not only did Company of Heroes 3 receive poor reviews from players, but a few months ago the company laid off about 40 employees. Nevertheless, the developers continue to develop the strategy, as demonstrated by the extensive update numbered 1.8, which brought new content and numerous fixes to the game.
Company of Heroes 3 – Update 1.8 Changes
A few days ago, the devs explained the new features of the fresh update in an almost hour-long material. Furthermore, a detailed description of the update was published on the official RTS website. We've listed the most important changes below.
- Ambient sounds have been added to some maps (e.g. birds singing).
- Three new maps have been added: Road to Primosole (2 vs 2), Longstop Hill (3 vs 3), and Alam el Halfa (4 vs 4). The latter is the work of the gaming community.
- Improvements have been made to the quality of gameplay in multiplayer maps. The devs improved, for instance, the trenches on Gothic Line.
- From now on, it's the player who decides about chat visibility. By default it is disabled.
- The interface has been improved, adjustments have been implemented to the multiplayer gameplay balance, and the AI has been modified to make enemies more eager to attack.
Let us note that in March 2024, Relic Entertainment parted ways with the publisher – Sega, which was responsible for the distribution of the second and third installments of Company of Heroes. Since then, the studio has been working as an independent developer.
Players are positive about the new patch, but activity is at a standstill
Reading the comments under Relic's announcement, we might get the impression that fans of the third installment are quite optimistic about the changes introduced. Similar reactions were posted by Steam users, who congratulated the devs on a well-executed update and were happy about, among other things, three new maps. However, there are also less enthusiastic voices that draw attention to unnecessary chat shutdowns or problems after installing the patch.
After the release of patch 1.8, Company of Heroes 3 didn't see a significant increase in users. Over the last 24 hours, the peak was 3,209 players playing at the same time. The game has garnered over 27,000 reviews so far, with only 54% rating it as "positive."
If you want to test the strategy discussed, this is a good opportunity to do so. Until September 29th, Company of Heroes 3 will be available for purchase on Steam for $29.99 (the standard price is $59.99).
