Combat in Diablo 4 Will Emphasize Movement and Tactics
We are learning more and more details about Diablo IV. This time the developers revealed how important tactics and mobility will be during combat.
Although we have not yet officially learned the exact release date of Diablo IV, the game's promotional campaign is running. As part of it, the producers of the upcoming work- Rod Fergusson and Joe Shely - decided to bring new info on Blizzard's latest game (via PCGamesN).
Diablo 4 will be simplified, and thus more "realistic"
During an interview with IGN (video below), the developers confessed that - unlike Diablo III - the appearance of the world in the fourth game will be simplified, and at the same time more transparent, in order to give players the impression of a "down-to-earth" production. This, in turn, is expected to affect the combat system, which will require so much dexterity, but tactical skills.
This transparency was achieved by the developers, among other things, by removing blue and yellow glow on stronger enemies. Shely noted that this approach has its limitations, however.
"When monsters are hiding behind a door, a pillar or something similar, it's certainly better not to have any information about it - but it also turns out to be very frustrating!
If you are not able to see what you are doing or what your opponents are doing, it is difficult to feel that you are making the right decisions in such a situation."
Movement and proper balance are important
The developer referred to the player's movement, explaining that the team designed the enemies to use movement mechanics to keep us constantly on the alert.
Fergusson added that an important aspect that Blizzard focused on was the difficulty level. He claims, the developers had to find the right balance.
"Diablo is a "power fantasy." So, if the combat is too slow and complicated, it gives the impression of endless life bar eradication. If, on the other hand, it is too fast, everything seems to be made of paper, and our skills mean little. It's important to find the golden mean," he said.
As I mentioned at the beginning, the game's release date has still not been revealed, but given the rumors circulating on the web, the title will allegedly debut in spring 2023 (you can read more about it here). The game will be available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.
