I have excellent news for those who have come to hate the 2K launcher, which is present in games like the 4X strategy Sid Meier's Civilization 6. Firaxis Games studio announced that the program, which has caused a lot of problems for players over the past few years, won't be implemented in the upcoming Sid Meier's Civilization 7.

The developers shared this exciting news for fans of the series when they revealed details about the tenth challenge in the sixth installment, which began on August 14th. The mentioned game received an update on the same day, which removed the 2K launcher. While this change only applies to the version of the game available on Steam for now, the developers said via Reddit that they also plan to remove the problematic program from the Epic Games Store "soon."

The decision to drop the 2K launcher unsurprisingly brought great joy to gamers. However, there were requests in the comments for the studio to take similar actions for other games, like Marvel's Midnight Suns.

Civilization VII is scheduled for release in the last quarter of 2025, which covers the period from October 1 to December 31, 2025. People who are thirsty for new information about the title should mark August 20th in their calendars. That day, at 1:30 a.m. PT, the first gameplay footage, accompanied by commentary from the developers, will be published on the Firaxis Games team's Twitch channel.
