Civilization 6's AI Became Hellbent on Science Due to Failed Update
Fans have discovered that an update to Sid Meier's Civilization VI has made changes to the AI that made it obsessed with scientific progress.
For some time now, AI in the turn-based strategy game Sid Meier's Civilization VI has been behaving very strangely. Players have noticed that the AI has an obsessive tendency to prioritize scientific progress at the expense of other areas of development.. Fans have finally discovered what the reason is - it turns out that a modest change in one of the files, introduced by an update, is responsible for this.
It took a long time for the players to discover what exactly is wrong with the AI. Only recently did they find the reason for these problems. It turns out that the value of the importance of learning for AI has been increased to 150% in the Victories.xml file. The indicator remains active throughout all phases of the game. As a result, other elements important for countries, such as gold or faith, were completely overshadowed.
With these changes, the AI fails to properly develop its troops, causing it to lose its initial bonuses and have great difficulty regaining its military ability in later phases, as well as becoming an easy target for barbarians. Great scientists are instantly snatched up by AI-controlled nations, and the spending on science is so big that they cannot help other countries in cases of disaster.
This change has been implemented so carelessly that even scientific development is not taking place properly, despite how important this sphere has become for the AI. This is because AI invests like crazy in some areas and almost completely forgets about others.
How to fix AI in Sid Meier's Civilization VI
For now, it is unknown whether Firaxis will fix this bug. Fortunately, players don't have to wait for the developers. All you need to do is find the following fragment in the Victories.xml file:
...and change "150" to a lower number. For balanced gameplay, "15" is recommended, while if you want the AI to place heavy emphasis on science, but not at the expense of ignoring the other elements, then change the value to "30" or "40".
You should also consider removing the following settings.
These are also changes from a recent update. They cause the development strategies of different civilizations to become more similar, reducing the variety of gameplay.
