Studio Colossal Order is not giving up on supporting Cities: Skylines - the bestselling game about building a city. The title is now over 7 years old, but the developers continue to expand it. The eleventh major expansion, named Plazas & Promenades, has finally made its debut. The expansion can be purchased on Steam.

Cities finally car-free

True to its name the DLC focuses on expanding squares and sidewalks. We can designate the former using new zones, which we'll expand with new rules such as slow driving (limiting the speed of vehicles to 20 kilometers per hour) and adding street music (increasing the satisfaction of residents). In turn, we can finally place sidewalks like a regular road, creating green city centers largely free of vehicles and pollution.

There are also three completely new districts: office districts, densely populated residential areas and densely populated commercial areas. The new districts operate on a similar principle like in the base game, but each has received 24 new buildings - all kept in a modern style.

"The best expansion ever"

User reviews on Steam are mostly positive (74% based on 43 reviews at the time of writing). Quite a few people are happy with the changes, saying they were long overdue in the game.

There are also more extensive entries, suggesting that this is the best expansion in the game's history. Players praise the ability to build cities without streets for cars, which allows for better management of the game area and the level of pollution and noise. The modern design of houses and buildings (including schools, police stations, universities) has also found its supporters, especially since the new buildings resemble real-life counterparts from the city of Helsinki, Finland.

This is not the only appreciated DLC for the game. For instance, Mass Transit (84% positive reviews) delighted players with the ability to expand public transportation with ferries, airships or cable cars. Also Industries (73% of positive reviews) appealed to the players, expanding the implementation of industry in the game.

Cities: Skylines is available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, as well as on Nintendo Switch. The game also owes its popularity to mods, although it is worth watching out for them, as some of them could lead to hacker attacks.
