Inquisitive fans have spotted something interesting in footage from Cities: Skylines II, the sequel to the hit city-building strategy from Colossal Order.

  1. Fans spotted a much more realistic cost of city management in the sequel.
  2. In the first installment, the amounts are symbolic. One dollar in the game corresponds roughly to a thousand dollars in the real world, so for $70,000 we can build what would normally cost about $70 million. As a result, for example, to construct a hospital in Cities: Skylines we have to spend $65 thousand.
  3. Analyzing materials from Cities: Skylines II, players discovered that the costs in the new game seem much closer to the real ones. For example, the maintenance of a fire station consumes a standard $178,600 per month, while its expansion requires an investment of $240,000.
  4. In a screenshot of budget expenditures, various items cost from several hundred thousand to several million dollars per month, and the city's entire monthly spending is more than $11 million. For comparison - in the first part, we have to spend about $50 thousand each month to maintain a medium-sized city.
  5. Players also noted that also in terms of population size, the devs have increased the realism of the gameplay compared to the first part, which is very conventional in this regard. One of the cities shown in the materials from Cities: Skylines 2 has 112,000 inhabitants.

Thus, in the sequel we will find a much larger amount of money at our disposal, but at the same time the cost of managing the city and its expansion will increase many times.

Recall that Cities: Skylines II is heading for PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, and the game will also be available as part of a Game Pass. The release is expected to take place this year.
