After a series of weekly patches, Colossal Order will need more time to prepare major updates (and mod support).

Developers of Cities: Skylines 2 intend to slow down with updates. In an announcement published on Steam and Paradox's official forum they revealed that another minor patch is on the way, but after that Colossal Order wants to focus on larger (and thus more time-consuming) updates to significantly improve optimization.

For some time now, the team has been releasing weekly patches to remove or mitigate the biggest pain points of the second Cities: Skylines. These weren't big updates, but they did address several annoying issues, including bugs with trash and stray dogs flooding virtual cities.

Nevertheless, it's difficult to deny that CS 2 is still far from the ideal that fans have dreamed of. Ratings on Steam remain "mixed," and players do not hide their disappointment also in the comments under the developer's new post. According to the community, its content confirms that the sequel to Cities: Skylines II was released de facto "in beta," and the developers should have held off the release until next year (via Reddit / Steam).

The mood of fans is not improved by the mention of planned support for mods, although most of the information they provided is not new. The developers are currently working on adding an item swapping feature to the beta version of the editor, which for now only a select handful of fans have access to.

It has also been confirmed that on consoles the modding tools will be available right away at launch, but on PC the editor's debut is expected to be a few months away. The exact date or month was not given, although it was reminded that the release of CS 2 for PS5 and XSX/S will take place in the first half of 2024.
