CD Projekt is the highest-ranking public company in Poland
In the recent years Polish video game developers proved that they can make great games. It turns out that CD Projekt, the owner of The Witcher IP, is currently the highest-ranking public company in Poland.
The publisher and owner of The Witcher IP, CD Projekt, is the highest-ranking public company in Poland as of 2016, according to the GSB (Polish: Public Company of the Year) ranking by Puls Biznesu newspaper – that, by the way, is the fourth time in row. CD Projekt’s market value is now well over PLN 7.3 billion (or USD 1.84 billion).
Interestingly, the second place on the list is also occupied by a video game developer: 11 bit studios, creators of This War of Mine and publishers of several promising indie titles (they are also working on a winter-themed survival game Frostpunk). Their success is even more notable if you take into account that the company had to close their digital distribution platform Games Republic recently – we wrote more about that studio’s position in the stock market in this story.
CD Projekt’s biggest releases of the recent years are obviously The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and its two expansions: Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine (only the latter appeared in 2016). They are also going to publish Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, which is currently in closed beta and launching this year, as well as Cyberpunk 2077, their next big RPG. It appears that video games are becoming one of Poland’s major export products. No wonder that Polish government decided to give generous grants for some of the most promising local projects.
