Canceled Spider-Man 4 in New Gameplay
An early gameplay of the canceled Spider-Man 4 from Radical Entertainment, on which 2012's Prototype 2 was based, has appeared online.
Obscure Gamers published eighteen minutes of footage showing the canceled game Spider-Man 4 by Radical Entertainment. Its development started in 2008 and was connected with the movie under the same title, directed by Sam Raimi. Eventually, by the decision of Sony Pictures, the movie was canceled and The Amazing Spider-Man, directed by Marc Webb, was made in its place.
The video shows scenes from an early version developed for Xbox 360 (creators were able to prepare only about 15% of the game, or four missions). Additionally, the title was to be released on PC, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and DS. The Nintendo version was to be handled by respectively: Eurocom and Vicarious Visions.
Interestingly, the game was developed using the engine and resources (especially the New York map) from another game by Radical Entertainment, 2009's Prototype. In the end Spider-Man 4 was never completed, but it became the foundation of Prototype 2 from 2012. The Wii version was a completely separate project, developed on a proprietary EngineX engine, and the story itself was supposed to be linear. You can see footage from that version here.
Since then, various concept arts and images from the game have appeared online, published by people working on the canceled production. You can find them here.
