Call of Duty Vanguard Shafted Due to PS4 and Xbox ONE Limitations?

Rumors have surfaced online, suggesting that Call of Duty WWII: Vanguard will not realize its full potential, as the developers are constrained by the need to also develop a version for last-gen consoles.

NEW RUMORS IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. The need to create a game that runs on both last and current-gen consoles is expected to negatively impact CoD 2021;
  2. The developers could have realized their ambitions better if the game had only come out for next-gen and PC;
  3. What's more CoD 2022 , developed by Infinity Ward, is expected to have the same problem.

We're still waiting for the official announcement of this year's installment of the Call of Duty series, so we welcome all rumors regarding this project with interest. The source of the latest is Tom Henderson, who has a good reputation among fans of CoD and Battlefield series when it comes to such reports. This time, however, we hope that he is wrong, because the information he shared is not very optimistic.

According to Henderson, the devs of Call of Duty WWII: Vanguard (earlier rumors suggest such title) will be unable to fully realize their ambitions, because the game must also work on last-gen consoles, namely PlayStation 4 and Xbox One . The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S have far greater capabilities, so this year's instalment would be more impressive if it was developed solely with next-gen and PC in mind.

To make matters worse, according to Henderson, this problem doesn't just affect this year's installment, but also the one scheduled for 2022. He claims that the next Call of Duty, which Infinity Ward is working on, is created according to the same guidelines from the publisher and the developers are forced to create a game that, in addition to next-gen, will also work on older consoles.

PS4 and Xbox One are still owned by tens of millions of people, so the desire to cash in on this part of the market is nothing strange. The problem is that it can negatively affect the quality of these games. Either the developers will have to keep their ambitions in check, creating an altogether less impressive project, or they will develop something that will not work properly on old consoles, and thus we will get a repeat of Cyberpunk 2077.

Of course, it all depends on how the cross-gen approach is executed. This isn't the first time CoD has faced such a problem. In the case of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, released a year after the launch of 8th-gen consoles, the PS3 and Xbox 360 editions were developed by a separate team (High Moon Studios) and offered the same content, but with much poorer visuals.

Rumor has it that this year the core team (Sledgehammer Games) will handle both the last and current-gen console versions. Currently, however, each CoD game is developed by more than one studio, so it's possible that the first fiddle on the Xbox One and PS4 releases will be played by the team that only assists with current-gen editions.
