Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered Almost Certain
Thanks to the Korean age rating agency, we can be practically sure that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is being developed. It is also increasingly likely that the game will not offer a multiplayer mode.
Databases of organizations dealing with age rating are often an excellent source of information about unannounced projects. The most recent example of this is the Korean rating agency, which recently listed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered, a refreshed version of the popular FPS from 2009. Rumors about this production have been making rounds on the web for a long time and its existence now seems almost certain.
Interestingly, in the agency's database, the project is called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered. This is in line with previous reports, which suggested that we will only receive a refreshed version of the campaign.
The lack of multiplayer mode would not be a particular surprise. Activision continues to develop last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, this year's installment of the main series will be released, and the free-to-play Call of Duty: Warzone launched last week. The publisher may not want to release another multiplayer CoD, even if it would be a remaster of an older production.
As a reminder, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released in November 2009 on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game proved to be a great commercial success, selling 4.7 million copies in the US and UK alone within the first 24 hours of its release.
The game was also very warmly received by the industry media. The PS3 version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 received an average rating of 94% on Metacritic. The Xbox 360 edition did just as well, and the PC edition received 86%.
