New Gameplay From Broken Roads; RPG for Fans of Fallout and Disco Elysium
The developers of Broken Roads reminded us of their work and showed how their vision of a game inspired by the classic Fallout with action set in Australia is shaping up.
It's been a long time since the announcement of Broken Roads and this period wasn't very abounded in materials from this intriguing game. Fortunately, the developers from Drop Bear Bytes took the opportunity of the The MIX Direct Spring Showcase 2023 event, and shared new footage of Broken Roads, which shows gameplay and discusses the game's key features.
The video was posted by IGN, but also appeared on YouTube via the Game Trailers channel. You can watch the whole thing below.
The game, which the creators themselves compare to Fallout (by atmosphere) and Disco Elysium (by the complexity of the narrative and choices), has changed somewhat since the first presentations in 2019-2020. This is evident in both the refreshed interface and the absence of the grid on the maps, which characters previously moved around engaged in turn-based combat. The locations have also been significantly enhanced, helped by thousands of photographs from the team's trip to Western Australia.
In addition, Drop Bear Bytes assures that they are also slowly finishing the "writing," which is especially important in this type of game. The developers boast of 36 thousand "spots" on the protagonist's moral compass and hundreds of choices, seemingly trivial, but which can have important consequences in the long run.
This, by the way, is one of the reasons why the developer takes the estimated 25 hours needed to complete Broken Roads rather loosely. Especially since players will also have to choose one of the character's four story backgrounds, which will not be unaffected by the game's events.
Broken Roads will be released this year on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
