Blizzard Plans to Remaster Warcraft 2. Game is Already Undergoing Internal Testing (Rumor)
An entry regarding Warcraft 2: Remastered has appeared on Blizzard's internal servers. The title will most likely be announced next week during the Warcraft Direct presentation.
Exactly one week from now, on November 13, a special showcase of Warcraft Direct will take place to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the brand. It's hard to imagine a better opportunity to announce something new related to this popular universe. However, it seems that Blizzard failed to prevent leaks, as the first information about Warcraft II: Remastered has just appeared online.
As noted by the Wowhead service, a production entry appeared on BlizzTrack, a tool used to track the studio's games. It's currently listed on their servers under the name Warcraft II: Remastered Internal Alpha, which means that the developers are conducting internal testing. Besides, the update also included the game's logo and the first graphic.
The leak obviously caused quite a commotion among fans of the original. Some are glad to have the chance to return to it, but some are holding back their excitement, noting how Blizzard handled the refresh of the third installment.
It's worth reminding that according to recent leaks, the devs may also be preparing a major update for Warcraft III: Reforged. This is also to be announced during the upcoming presentation.
It should also be noted that in the case of Warcraft II, we are only going to receive a remaster. This means that the introduced changes will most likely be limited to what we saw in the 2017 release of StarCraft: Remastered. This isn't a bad thing, especially considering that the previous title was received quite warmly by players, unlike WC3: Reforged.
Let's remind that Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness was released on March 14, 1995, exclusively on PC. The 30th birthday of the title in just over 4 months would be the perfect opportunity for the release of the updated edition.
