IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Bitdefender antivirus software blocks the installation of the latest Windows 10 patch, KB4574727, informing about a trojan in one of its files;
  • However, some Bitdefender users report that yesterday's fix may have solved the problem.

The Windows 10 update KB4574727 fixes many security issues in the system and its components. However, Bitdefender antivirus software claims that the security patch is a threat to our computer because it contains a virus (Trojan). Such a message can be seen by the owners of this security software when installing the patch released by Microsoft on September 8.

A warning about the presence of Trojan.Ciusky.Gen.13 in one of the files appears after downloading the patch and restarting the computer when the system finishes installing it. Thus, the proces is canceled as Bitdefender locks the file in quarantine. Of course this is a false positive, because it is almost impossible for files downloaded from Microsoft's servers to be infected with anything.

The way to install the update correctly is to add exceptions in the antivirus program. Many users claim that Bitdefender is sometimes overzealous and false alarms occur. As you can see, the problem has already been reported as "false positive" in the software manufacturer's forum.

However, some of the users of Bitdefender who are affected by the issue report that after yesterday's patch, Windows 10 installed the upgrade without any problems. It is quite possible that the antivirus software manufacturer has already solved the problem. Importantly, there is no information about problems with KB4574727 itself, so it looks like it (this time?) does not contain any significant errors.
