Beloved Factorio Will Get a Feature Long Thought Too Hardcore
A new, expanded blueprint feature is heading to strategy game Factorio, which should please the most avid fans of factory building. Interestingly, the developers have held off on implementing this tool for years, considering it „too hardcore.”.
With the addition of Space Age the enduringly beloved strategy game Factorio will receive an interesting feature, which was requested for a number of years by the game's most avid fans. However, the developers considered it "too hardcore".
We are talking about the so-called parameterized blueprints, a customizable tool that will enable the player to specify certain parameters in the interface window, which in turn will affect the shape of a number of structures. This will make it possible, for example, to efficiently and quickly build a number of desired blueprints in the game, while maintaining customization options.
Parameterized blueprints will not have a specific object configuration. Instead, they are to function as a general formula, for which players can specify a series of preset parameters. Whenever we decide to use a particular preset, a window with details to be determined will appear on the screen.
Importantly, this option will even enable you to set some parameters as dependent on others. This means that there will be no need to set each of them separately, if some have already been specified and linked by dependency. For example: it will be possible to set that the second numerical parameter in a given construction always doubles the value of the first one, so that only one field needs to be filled in during construction.
However, let's go back to the beginning. Why did the developers of Factorio finally decided to put such an advanced feature in the game? As stated by the main designer of the game, Michal "kovarex" Kovarik, the reason for the change of decision is experience, which over the years has taught the developers that players who love building simulators should not be underestimated.
Nevertheless, this tool is intended mainly for "hardcore" players. This is evidenced by the fact that kovarex compares it to programming.
"Factorio has already been compared to programming many times, and this [tool - ed. note] is just another part of that analogy."
Although the feature in question has already been completed, we don't know when exactly it will be coming to Factorio. This is because we do not know the release date of the Space Age DLC. It is expected to be released in 2024.
