Bayonetta Dev on Possible Collaboration With Hideo Kojima: It Would be a Disaster
The legendary Hideki Kamiya, who recently left PlatinumGames, talked about his vision for the Bayonetta brand, as well as possible collaborations with other Japanese game creators.
In September, the news broke that after 17 years of work, PlatinumGames parted with its co-founder and legendary game director Hideki Kamiya. The main creator of the acclaimed Bayonetta series admitted at the time that he leaves the studio, wanting to focus on his own projects, in which he would have been free to decide their course.
Since leaving the team, Kamiya has regularly shared his memories and thoughts, as well as answered viewer questions on YouTube, where he runs his own channel.
9-part Bayonetta
In a recent video (below), the developer - who calls himself unemployed - addressed questions about the Bayonetta brand and its future.
Among other things, the developer explained his initial plans for the story of the popular witch's adventures, which were to operate under the banner of Bayonetta Saga.
"I was working on Bayonetta 1, 2, 3 and Origins. I talked about it in various interviews that the series was going to have a total of nine parts and I wanted to develop the brand as Bayonetta Saga, but it looks like I will probably take the whole story with me to the grave. This is a terrible shame. It's not like I own the Bayonetta IP, but I suspect that those who are will probably continue to work on it."
The words of the director are interesting in that before his departure from PlatinumGames, in November 2022, he revealed that work was underway on Bayonetta 4.
However, from the above words, as well as the decision to go "solo" we can infer that his role in this project was limited - at least compared to previous installments.
"It doesn't work like in Dragon Ball" - Hideki Kamiya on working with Kojima
In a recent video Kamiya also answered a question about possible future collaborations with other industry veterans, such as Hideo Kojima.
In his opinion, this would not be a good idea due to the vast differences in the different directors' approaches to game development.
"It doesn't work like in Dragon Ball, where Goku teams up with other characters. That would be a disaster. Two people with completely different personalities and ideas would clash. There is no way a good game would come out of it."
