Battlefield 5: DICE apologises for going easy on beginners
Community outrage forces DICE to rollback recent balance changes in Battlefield V.

Battlefield V's launch was not exactly successful. The game was released with a small number of maps and a short campaign, poorly optimized ray-tracing, received worse reviews than Battlefield 1 and there are many signs that even even its sales are worse. Some of these problems have been somewhat mitigated by the developers through patches, but it seems like they got on the community’s bad side again. All thanks to the changes in the game, which are supposed to make the game easier for beginners. This angered the veterans so much that the developers were quickly forced to withdraw from this decision, at least partially.
Last week, DICE changed the so-called TKK (Time to Kill) values, which determine how difficult it is to kill an opponent. The damage dealt by virtually any type of weapon has been reduced, so it takes more effort and time to eliminate an enemy. The modification values vary depending on weapon type, hit location and distance to target, but DICE explained that it usually takes one additional bullet to kill a rival.
The changes were motivated by the data obtained from gameplay. According to them, newcomers die too quickly in Battlefield V, which frustrates them and makes them quit instead of returning to the game.
The reaction of the community was easy to predict. The changes angered fans to such an extent that after a few days DICE was forced to change its mind. The developers published an apology and promised that this week there will be variants with old TKK values available on the game lists, so each player will be able to decide which version suits them better.
Battlefield V is available on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. At the beginning of December, the game received a large update, called Overture, which introduced, among other things, a new chapter of the campaign, an additional multiplayer map and improvements in ray tracing performance.
