Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 Now on PC; Players Criticize One Aspect
The refreshed version of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II has been warmly received by PC gamers. However, they complain about the port's high price.
Yesterday, the refreshed edition of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II, one of the best action RPGs ever released on PlayStation 2, debuted on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It's worth taking a look at how this classic was received by modern-day gamers.
- The activity record on release day on Steam was 632 concurrent users. That's a result almost double that of the first Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance.
- The game also received a warm reception - on Steam, 79% of user ratings praised Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II, which is categorized as a "mostly positive" reception.
- Player reviews are noticeably lower than for the first part, which has 84% positive ratings on Steam. The sequel, however, has only a few dozen ratings from players for now, so it will be some time before a meaningful comparison between the two gamescan be made.
- Most players praise Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II for its gameplay and atmosphere. Criticism is mainly limited to the high price. almost $30 for an almost 20-year-old game is, in the opinion of many, far too much, especially since the graphics have not been significantly improved, and the improvement in quality is mainly due to an increase in resolution.
- Overall, the technical layer is collecting good reviews, with many players emphasizing that the game performs well on Steam Deck.
Recall that Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II originally debuted in 2004 on PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube consoles. So the debut of the refreshed version was especially hard awaited by PC gamers. It is worth mentioning that a long time ago CD Projekt worked on porting the first part to PC. However, the port was abandoned due to Interplay's financial problems, and the Polish team set about creating the first The Witcher.
Champions of Norrath and Champions: Return to Arms next in line?
It was a good thing that both parts of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance finally lived to see PC versions. In player reviews there is a wish that a similar fate befall the spiritual heirs of the series, namely the games Champions of Norrath and Champions: Return to Arms from the same team, but here the publisher was Sony and, for the time being, there is no sign that it wants to refresh these classic productions.
