Baldur's Gate 3's Physical Edition Not Limited; Larian Warns Against Scalpers
Larian Studios assures those planning to purchase Baldur's Gate 3: Deluxe Edition that they need not fear that physical copies will be sold out.
After the huge success of Baldur's Gate 3, Larian Studios has decided to release its hit game on physical media. On all platforms, Deluxe Edition will appear in first quarter of 2024, but you can already place preorders on the the game's official website. This, in turn, is a prime occasion for scalpers who are listing unreleased copies online at inflated prices.
Aware of this, the developers posted a message on the Internet, in which they emphasize that the aforementioned version of BG3 is not a limited edition and there is no concern that the stock will be exhausted.
"Just FYI the Deluxe Edition is *not* a limited edition and stock is holding steady, with more waves being prepared within the Q1 2024 shipping window, so if you see them online being resold based on confirmed preorders at higher prices, skip it. There won’t be stock scarcity," writes on X/Twitter Larian Studios publishing director Michael Douse.
In a subsequent message, the developer added that such a wide shipping window was intentionally given so that, in case of shortage problems, it would be easy to create another batch of media without "jeopardizing the shipping date."
"We have confirmed the minimum expected number of preorders, but we exceeded it on the first day - the stated shipping date of the first quarter of 2024 simply enables us to scale up orders in one go without risking a shipping being overdue, so we don't expect problems during this 4-month buffer window [including December 2023 - ed. note]," Douse added.
Deluxe Edition of Baldur's Gate 3 includes: a three-disc game soundtrack by Bobby Slavov, a double-sided world map, 32 stickers, two patches, a postcard featuring a Mindflayer, and a box. Although Larian Studios' website lists the price of a single copy at $79.99, bids as high as $299 are already circulating on eBay (via PCGamesN).
Finally, let's mention that Larian Studios encourages fans to support Baldur's Gate 3 in the battle for the game of the year award. The winner of the vote will be determined at The Game Awards 2023 in December.
