Check our guide on How to Play Black Deck in Balatro, featuring insights on selecting the right Jokers and essential strategies to follow.
Balatro lets you unleash the power of poker in a deck-building roguelike. Start your run by selecting a unique deck with playing cards that are key to forming poker hands. These decks, each with its own different effects, are unlocked through various challenges. The higher the stakes, the more demanding the journey. Here are some essential tips on how to play Black Deck, one of the most difficult decks in the game.
What does -1 hand in Balatro mean?
Black Deck in Balatro is unlocked after discovering at least 100 items from collection and has an additional 1 Joker slot. The main reason why Black Deck is so challenging is its -1 hand penalty every round. This means that players must win by scoring enough chips with only 3 hands, which can prove to be quite challenging.
How to Play Black Deck in Balatro
Below are key pointers to secure a victory playing Balatro with Black Deck:
- Buy Jokers early and aim for those that have + Chips, + Mult, and x Mult, like Gros Michel, and Cavendish. Buy Popcorn and Ice Cream if necessary, but note that they become less useful each round.
- If the first two Antes don’t go well, start from the beginning. Early momentum is crucial when it comes to Black Deck.
- Be on a lookout for Juggler. This Joker gives you +1 hand size.
- Special cards cost money, so try to save every dollar to get nice interest after each round (at least 25).
- Jokers’ effects activate from left to right, allowing you to rearrange them strategically. Always put your x Mult Joker on the right side for a maximum multiplier.
- In Black Deck, success doesn’t always depend on having the best hands. With the right Jokers and Planet Cards, even Three or Two Pair can lead to triumph.
