Back 4 Blood Open Beta Attracted Millions of Players
The recent open beta of Back 4 Blood was quite popular. Turtle Rock Studio shared a handful of stats from the testing, in which more than 5.6 million players took part.
Back 4 Blood was a (small) success on Steam even before the open beta began. So it will come as no surprise to anyone that also the open tests were quite successful. Turtle Rock Studio announced some stats from the beta on Twitter, revealing that over 5.6 million people participated in the tests. SteamDB also confirms that Back 4 Blood has broken its own activity record: almost 123,000 users on Steam at the same time (the previous best result was less than 100,000).
In accordance with the convention of such summaries, the creators also shared some non-standard data. There was no lack of information on the effectiveness of players in eliminating common zombies, almost 6.236 billion of which were killed during the beta (period from August 12 to 16). Also special infected were not safe - testers annihilated more than 164 million of these dangerous opponents. It was also revealed how often the beta participants hit the sensitive points of enemies (more than 35 million times), the number of PvP sessions played (548,357) and the most frequently used melee weapon (fire axe) and ranged (M4 rifle). In turn, the most popular hero was (Elijah) Walker.
However, popularity and big numbers are only one side of the coin - at the end of the day, the most important thing is the impressions of participants. Of course, we can't yet check the ratings on Steam or the reviews of journalists, but with help come the threads (and footage) posted by test participants. The general reception of Back 4 Blood beta was positive, although even the most enthusiastic reviews mention some problems. This includes the AI, which leaves a lot to be desired, and some even suspect that this is due to a bug. The crowds are still not captivated by the PvP mode, but the difficulty level was already rated better than during the closed tests.
Back 4 Blood will be released on October 12 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The game has already gone gold, but let's hope that by the time of the release the creators will have polished the production enough so that even the biggest fans of the original zombie co-op series from Turtle Rock Studios won't have much reasons to complain.
