To create a Probe Scanner, you need, of course, a suitable blueprint. Its cost is 4 thousand Bytes. After purchasing it, you will be able to craft the item using your backpack. The cost in resources is one unit of steel.

Astroneer - how to use the Probe Scanner?

You can use the Probe Scanner in two ways - by attaching it to the appropriate slot in the front of the vehicle or to your backpack. Then activate it using the appropriate button (PC: C or V, Xbox: LB or RB, PS4: L1 or R1, Switch: L or R).

After activation the scanner will start beeping and indicating the direction you should head to find the probe. Every so often it will make a full rotation. If the scanner rotates all the time, it means that you are too far from any probe to pick up a signal.

Probe Scanner also has three lights. The closer you are to the probe, the more of them light up. In addition, note that each activation of the scanner consumes some energy.

By following the directions of the scanner, you should reach the probe. Most often they are partially buried in the ground, so you have to dig them out. After the probe is excavated, you should install the scanner into the probe.

By doing so, you will gain access to the probe, but you will lose the Probe Scanner you used before. This will unlock a special achievement and a new color palette for your suit.
