The last chapter of My Hero Academia was released at the beginning of August 2024, and the final volume of the manga in December 2024. Kohei Horikoshi therefore has room to start a new project, and as he himself admitted, he is slowly working on it, preparing the first sketches of a new story that will surprise fans. Although we will still have to wait a bit for it.

Recently, there was a collab between Marvel and Weekly Shonen Jump, which concerned the ending of MHA. For this occasion, Horikoshi not only prepared new artwork but also revealed a little about his future plans, stating that he is not putting his pen aside and is preparing to take on a new project.

I feel really lucky over the success of MHA, so I know there's a lot of pressure around my next move. I'm planning to start a new manga as soon as I possibly can.

I was thinking to committing myself to simply drawing my next project, and letting someone else write the story, but my editor advised me 'It will be better if you do it all yourself.' With that in mind, I've slowly started writing and drawing the thumbnails of my next manga. However, there are still several events left surrounding MHA, so for a while I'll still be committed to supporting and promoting it.

Horikoshi doesn't even give himself a moment of rest. He wants to start working on a new manga as soon as possible, but first, he has to fulfill all his obligations regarding My Hero Academia, which still has a few events to go through, including the manga finale and the continuation of the anime.

Despite considering the option of sharing the work with another author this time, who would take over the story writing from the mangaka, it seems that Horikoshi intends to follow his publisher's advice and do everything himself. We have no idea what the new manga series will be about or when we get some specific information. We will have to wait for that until Horikoshi will be ready.
