Analogue Pocket Will Not Only Run Games, but Also Tell Their History
The Analogue Pocket console system will not only enable you to play classic games (e.g. from Game Boy), but also to learn about their history. The creators announce serious development plans.
- The Analogue Pocket console will receive a dedicated operating system;
- It will not only enable you to run games, but will also offer library information about them.
Analogue Pocket is one of the most interesting upcoming portable consoles, which will enable us to run old games from original cartridges. Analogue, Inc., the company responsible for the project, has announced that the hardware will receive a dedicated operating system, enabling us to learn the history of the games we run on it.
The creators of the device even go so far as to say that Analogue Pocket will be to mobile consoles and the gaming market what the Library of Alexandria was to the ancient world. After inserting the cartridge, the console's OS will display not only basic information, but also detailed data on the game's revision and changes implemented, as well as interesting facts about it.
Apart from that, we'll get standard features for this type of device - taking screenshots, quicksave and quickload, collecting stats of running productions (in a later system update) and connecting to a TV via a dock.
It's worth noting here that Analogue Pocket will not emulate games, but will run them natively from cartridges. Three consoles will be supported out of the box - Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance. If we buy a suitable adapter, we can also use the titles released for Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Atari Lynx and many other platforms.
The launch of the device is tentatively scheduled for December this year. Interested parties can place pre-orders on the official website at a price of $199.
