Among Us Players Have to Deal With Impostors AND Cheaters
The unexpected success of Among Us two years after its launch translated into increased interest in the game from hackers. Internet users report more and more often cheating cases on public servers.
Popularity has its good sides, but unfortunately it can also cause problems. For example, few people bother to create niche cheats for a niche game, but if it gains a larger group of players, crooks will flock like crows. Among Us fits this description perfectly, as evidenced by a Twitter post , which presents a tool developed by hackers. User this is poco checked it in a private session with friends who were informed about his plans.
Of course, due to the unusual character of the game, the tool does not offer classic cheats like godmode or wall clipping. Instead, we can make sure we are the impostor, turn off cooldown after killing someone, increase the speed of our character's movement or immediately end the game with a victory of the chosen team. There are also some "little things" like increasing field of view range, unlimited meeting and "finishing" tasks (i.e. filling the progress bar).
Hackers remain the scourge of online games, even titles from large publishers. It is telling that Among Us has no progression system or any rewards for winning, which would be (even broadly stretching the definition) anexcuse for cheating - hackers gain nothing for spoiling the fun of themselves and others. Of course, creators do not intend to stand idly by. Studio Innersloth confirmed in an interview for Kotaku that they are working on a system of accounts in Among Us, which was mentioned when the devs announced the cancellation of the sequel. This solution will enable them to introduce more effective moderation and reporting system for players, which together with other changes (including better detection and blocking of cheats by servers) should improve the situation.
Perhaps Innersloth's actions aren't enough to completely eradicate cheaters. In the end, there has been virtually no game that has achieved it so far, and only a team of three worked on Among Us . Nevertheless, fans of the game are still more lucky than fans of other productions. They can choose to play only with friends or a group of trusted people from Discord, without losing anything from the game. Those who try to play the ranked mode in the new Call of Duty or to get crown in Fall Guys don't have this option. Another thing is that Among Us is plagued by a kind of cheaters not present in other titles - friends passing on information outside the game.
