Among Us Devs Comment on Fortnite's Impostors Mode
The folks at Innersloth have commented on Fortnite's new Impostors mode, which draws heavily from their popular game Among Us. In addition to expressing their disapproval for the lack of originality, the developers regret that Epic Games did not contact them for a collaboration.
Yesterday we reported on the introduction a mode inspired by last year's hit Among Us to Fortnite. Due to the numerous similarities between Fortnite: Impostors and Innersloth's title, employees of the latter have decided to express their disapproval on Twitter.
First of all, one of the devs noted that the gameplay area in Impostors Impostors looks a lot like The Skeld from their title. The two boards differ only in minor changes in room layout or mirroring of individual rooms.
Victoria Tran - Game Community Director pf Among Us - expresses sadness that a giant such as Epic Games has not approached them about a collaboration that could have been mutually beneficial. Although Fortnite is a much bigger and definitely more popular game, the developers of Among Us could bring some fresh ideas to it.
At the same time, Innersloth's employees point out that no one should have ownership over a particular type of gameplay, and even their gameplay idea isn't entirely original, as it it draws handfuls from social games like Mafia and Werewolf. However, they are saddened that Epic Games also used their terminology and even themes for the development of an already powerful title, which is a real blow to a small studio hiring just a bunch of people.
Some Innersloth fans have accused Epic Games of poorly disguised plagiarism. Admittedly, none of the game's developers directly said anything about stealing the company's intellectual property, although some statements may suggest it. The situation seems interesting, to say the least. It is unlikely that the studio, microscopic compared to Epic Games, will take steps against the actions of the giant. For now, we have to wait for more information and possible developments.
