AMD Radeon RX 6700 Launch May be Delayed
The launch of Radeon RX 6700, a rival of RTX 3060, may be slightly delayed. The new schedule mentions the end of the first quarter of 2021, that is March. Is this due to problems with the availability of other RX 6xxx cards?
- The launch of AMD RX 6700 (XT) GPUs delayed to March 2021.
We may have to wait a bit longer for the new AMD graphics cards based on Navi 22. The RX 6700 (XT) is a direct competitor to the RTX 3060, previously announced to launch at the end of January. According to a French tech website, most probably new AMD chips will not appear until March.
Such information was provided by the editor-in-chief at CowcotLand - Aurélien Lagny, citing proven sources:
"According to our sources, two new AMD graphics cards are scheduled for the end of the first quarter of this year, the end of March."
The new XT cards are expected to have 40 computing units (half the amount of the flagship RX 6900 XT) and 12GB of memory on 192-bit bus, just like its rival, the RTX 3060. The power requirement (TGP) of the new AMD cards is expected to be up to 220 watts for XT and 160 watts for the regular version. The appearance of the information about the 12-gigabyte version of Nvidia cards (RTX 3060) looks as if they are to be added to the offer in response to the specs of RX 6700 chips.
Postponing the release shouldn't come as a surprise, considering the problems with supplying stores with models already on sale, i.e. RX 6800 and RX 6900. Currently, their purchase is very difficult - "product temporarily unavailable" label can be seen on most offers. Of course, this does not apply only to AMD cards, similar stock descriptions can be easily found in the case of new Nividia cards. Let's hope that the situation with cheaper models will look better after their release.
