Also Sony at the Verge of Major Leak? Hackers Sell Data From Company's 'All Systems' [Update]

Recent days have been full of information revolving around Microsoft's data leak. It seems that a similar situation may soon await Sony, which was said to have fallen victim to an attack carried out by a group of hackers.

Update: Sony addressed the topic in a statement sent to IGN. It is, however, very laconic. The company wrote only that it is "currently investigating the situation and has nothing more to report at this time."

Recently, one of the hottest topics among the gaming community has been the sizable leak of Microsoft documents that were disclosed on the occasion of a court case pending between the corporation and the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Among the contents made public was information related to exclusivity of upcoming titles and internal correspondence of the company's executives.

Recent reports suggest that the data leak problem may also affect another big player in the console market - Sony. This time, however the source of the corporation's problem is said to be a group of hackers known as Ransomed.vc.

Information for sale

As reported by Cyber Security Connect, the group responsible for the attack posted an ad on the Internet clearly suggesting that the acquired content is available for purchase by interested parties:

"We managed to break the security [sic!] of all Sony systems. We will not demand a ransom for them! We will sell the data because Sony doesn't want to pay. THE DATA IS FOR SALE, [...] WE ARE SELLING IT."

The hackers also suggest that if no buyer willing to take the stolen information reveals itself by September 28, it will be made public.

As proof of the successful attack Ransomed.vc released the so-called tree of seized files, which consisted of nearly 6,000 items. Among them are internal presentations of the corporation, logs from the company's various systems or numerous Java files.

Although the rather modest database supposed to represent the success of the attack aroused the suspicion of the author reporting on the incident, the next few days will probably verify whether the serious declarations on the part of the hackers will be reflected in reality.

At this point, there is no official comment from Sony. If the corporation decides to publish a position on the matter, we will let you know.
