Alita: Battle Angel Director Would Gladly Prepare Sequel for Disney+

Alita: Battle Angel 2 is possible, or at least that's what Robert Rodriguez says. The filmmaker wouldn't mind making a movie for Disney's VOD platform.

On Forbes we can find a fresh interview with Robert Rodriguez, a popular post-modern director known for works such as From Dusk to Dawn or Sin City. In 2019 he also directed a successful high-budget cyberpunk film titled Alita: Battle Angel, loose adaptation of a popular manga series. Although the work managed to close a few threads, there's no denying that it left a large hook for a possible sequel. Rodriguez revealed in an interview that he would be very happy to shoot it - especially in view of a premiere on Disney's VOD platform:

“I think anything is possible. Disney bought Fox, and they have Disney+, so that is worth the conversation. I know other people would love to see another, and I would love to do another one. As far as where it would go or how it would be made, I think streaming has opened up many opportunities such as sequels. It’s already a pre-sold concept, it’s already got a built-in audience that wants to see it, and then it’s delivered to them in a way that’s the easiest for them to consume. So, it’s not a bad idea.”

This means that basically the chance of the movie being made is about 50%, because Rodriguez wants it, but Disney does not. And of course, that's how it looks at this moment, but the mere fact of sharing in the media space one's desire to make a sequel and calling out some people and potential collaborators may give hope for some talks or negotiations on the topic of the second part of Alita. So if we want more good cyberpunk in the cinemas - let's keep out fingers crossed for Rodriguez.
