After release, Elden Ring: Nightreign may get a mode players wanted since its announcement
Will Elden Ring: Nightreign retain the spirit of free exploration, one of the key aspects of Elden Ring? The game's director provides the answer.

Another title from FromSoftware studio, Elden Ring: Nightreign, received a release date and another trailer yesterday. We will play the game on May 30, and currently it can be pre-ordered. However, it's still unknown what exactly the gameplay will look like, and one of the key issues remains the freedom of exploration. The game director, Junya Ishizaki, spoke out on this matter.
In a group, but solo
Nightreign is to focus on a cooperative, online gameplay model. Nonetheless, this doesn't mean that we must tackle all challenges alongside others - which is welcome news for players who appreciate autonomy and the freedom to select their own gameplay strategy, without the ongoing need to adjust to other session participants.
You don't have to babysit one another, but eventually it will culminate in this shared experience of a cooperative boss battle. While it is a multiplayer game, we want this to feel like a loose and flexible experience that retains some of that feeling of isolation and feeling of going off into the unknown on your own, too - explained Junya Ishizaki in an interview for GameSpot.
2-player mode is "considered"
It's confirmed that Elden Ring: Nightreign will feature a single-player mode and a 3-player co-op. This first one might be an appealing challenge for "Souls" veterans, as there is no sign that the enemies will scale.
That's why FromSoftware studio didn't intend to introduce a 2-player game mode. It's possible to enter matchmaking with a friend, but the game will randomly choose a third player for the session.
Interestingly, this may only be the case for the launch and shortly after it. In another interview, for UnGeek, Ishizaki said that a two-player mode is "being considered." So far it has not been implemented into the game and most likely this will not change before its release. However, FromSoftware may cater to the community by adding it to Elden Ring: Nightreign in a future post-release update.
