Activision „Killed” Highly Anticipated Mod for CoD: Modern Warfare Remastered

Microsoft's acquisition of Activision has unfortunately not changed the company's lack of love for mods. The publisher has just "killed" the long-awaited H2M modification.

  1. The mod aimed to bring the multiplayer content from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered.
  2. The project was highly anticipated by the fans. The main reason for this was the fact that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered has a multiplayer mode. However, we never received an updated version of the multiplayer from CoD: MW2. Instead, in 2020, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered was released, which, as the title suggests, only provided a facelift to the campaign.
  3. The H2M mod premiere was scheduled for today. Nevertheless, yesterday lawyers from Activision contacted the project creators, providing them with a cease and desist order.
  4. The authors of the modification have no way to defend themselves, so they announced that work on the mod has been abandoned.
  5. The decision of Activision is very disappointing. H2M was supposed to bring 50 maps from MW2 to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, as well as weapon additions, skins, and even killstreaks.

Interest in the mod was high. Player activity in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered on Steam has surged in anticipation of its release in recent days. The record two days ago was 602 people simultaneously playing, compared to just 160 users on Valve's platform last Wednesday.

Meanwhile, these figures indicate that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is currently a niche product. Permitting this group of players to play on converted, outdated maps wouldn't really impact the outcomes of the newest releases in the series.
