Activision Confirms: New Call of Duty Will Cost More on PS5 and XSX
We have learned the price of Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War releases on all platforms. Unfortunately, people wishing to play on PS5 and XSX will have to pay more, and perhaps not only for the new CoD.
Today, as promised, Activision presented the trailer of Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War and provided some information about the upcoming game. This includes its price, but this is where the rotten apple spoils the barrel. Activision confirmed that the standard editions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will be more expensive than on eighth generation platforms. This is called the Cross-Gen Bundle, which is an edition that can also be played on older devices (via PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store). Its cost has been set at $69.99, while standard editions for PS4, XONE and PC will remain at $59.99.
It is possible that the higher price is solely due to the cross-gen character of the release, as it does not differ from the standard Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War. However, CharlieINTEL reports that Activision has confirmed that the price increase will apply to all IPs owned by the publisher. Earlier Take-Two Interactive revealed a similar intention, but after protests of players it was assured that the issue will be considered separately for each title (via The Verge). However, if the price of Call of Duty - one of the biggest brands on the market - were to rise, many publishers would probably follow Activision. Such an opinion was expressed, among others, by Mat Piscatella from the NPD analytics group.
