Action of Cyberpunk Orion Could Move Byond Night City
CD Projekt RED screenwriter Magdalena Zych revealed that the Cyberpunk sequel doesn't have to be „bound” to Night City at all, as the story can unfold „wherever uber-capitalism develops.”.
Night City in Cyberpunk 2077 was visited by millions of players. It will also not be an exaggeration if we write that the fictional neon city, where the game's action takes place, was one of the main characters of CD Projekt RED's game. Will the danger-filled, futuristic metropolis also be the setting for the second part of the series? Not necessarily.
In an interview with the editors of GamingBolt one of the screenwriters at CD Projekt RED, Magdalena Zych, suggested that the Night City doesn't have to be the setting of Project Orion - because that is the codename of the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. According to the developer, the Cyberpunk brand represents an overarching idea and is not strictly tied to a specific location.
"As [the creator of tabletop game Cyberpunk 2020 - editor's note] Mike Pondsmith once said, cyberpunk as a genre is a kind of warning of what can happen if we are not careful as a species. It's not such an abstract science fiction idea. I think stories like this can happen wherever uber-capitalism develops and causes societies to degenerate. Night City is simply a place like any other city, real or imaginary," she explained.
Are Magdalena Zych's words an actual harbinger of great change, or is it just a loose suggestion? It's hard not to get the impression that the screenwriter's statement was not coincidental. However, it should be kept in mind that Project Orion is still at a fairly early stage of production, so we will probably have to wait a little longer for more details. We do know, however, that CD Projekt RED intends, in the case of this series follow the path set by The Witcher. In addition, the studio is working closely with Epic Games.
