4M Copies in 72Hrs. Palworld Makes History on Steam, Breaking Cyberpunk 2077's Record
Palworld doesn't stop to surprise. The production is selling at a frenzied pace and has even managed to surpass Counter-Strike 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 in terms of activity scores on Steam.
UPDATE
Palworld isn't slowing down. A few hours ago, the developers announced that 4 million players purchased the game in just three days. Recently, 86,000 copies of the game were acquired every hour.
At the same time, during the weekend peak, the number of people playing simultaneously reached as high as 1,291,967 players. As a result, the game has solidified its position at number 5 on the list of most played games on Steam, surpassing Cyberpunk 2077. What's more, both Dota 2 and Lost Ark are in the range of the game, with respective records bettered by just 4,000 and 34,000 players. The upcoming days are expected to be intriguing, partly because of the emerging allegations of Pokemon plagiarism.
Original news (January 21th)
Palworld, a game that combines survival game mechanics with elements taken directly from the Pokemon series, is going like a storm.
- The studio Poketpair, responsible for the game, has announced that Palworld sold over 3 million copies within the first 40 hours of its early access release. The speed at which this title is selling is incredible. One million copies were sold within 8 hours of its release, and the threshold of 2 million was exceeded sixteen hours later.
- Let's recall that the game was released on PC and Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. It's also available as part of a Game Pass subscription on all these platforms, so in reality, its popularity must be even greater than the number of copies sold suggests.
Palworld is so popular that yesterday it was the best-selling game in the world on Steam. Furthermore, this title had the highest number of players playing at the same time, beating even Counter-Strike 2.
- The game on Steam continues to grow, establishing new activity records nearly every hour. At the moment of writing this news, 972,013 players are playing simultaneously in Palworld on Valve's platform.
- Therefore, the Poketpair studio's game managed to surpass the previous year's results of Baldur's Gate 3 and Hogwarts Legacy on Steam, with 875,343 and 879,308 people playing simultaneously after their respective premieres. Currently, Palworld is the game with the sixth highest record in Steam history.
It's worth mentioning that Palworld has received very positive feedback from players. On Steam, 93% of the reviews are positive.
The developers didn't expect such a high number of players, which causes some issues. The co-op experienced some problems for a while, leading the developers to arrange an emergency meeting with Epic Games (Palworld was developed on Unreal Engine 5) to implement the required fixes. Currently, cooperation mode works better.
