Starfield Yet to Get Creation Kit; Already One of Most Modded Games
How many mods does Starfield have? The number may surprise you, and it's worth recalling that the game is still before the Creation Kit's release.
In March, Starfield will be exactly six-months-old. How has Bethesda's latest production fared during this time? In the players' opinion, it's rather average. The game currently holds only 62% positive reviews on Steam, and the latest ones are mostly negative.
The reception of Starfield was definitely influenced by the August debut of Baldur's Gate 3, which was excellent, kept players busy for longer and distracted them from Bethesda. However, the nail in the coffin for the creators of The Elder Scrolls or new installments of Fallout was the premiere of the expansion to Cyberpunk 2077, Phantom Liberty, preceded by update 2.0. With such a series of big moves from competition, the question arose -- can the game still be saved?
Mods, stacked
However, Starfield is far from collapse. The creators provide continuous support for the game, and science fiction fans are hopefully looking towards the announced expansion, which is to be called Shattered Space. However, the experience is mended by modders who, since the game's release, have been fixing or correcting various errors, often adding new content.
Therefore, less than five months after its release, Starfield is already the eleventh most frequently modded title on Nexus Mods with 6.6 thousand different mods.
As one of the Reddit users noted, the number is surprising, mainly because the title hasn't received an official Creation Kit yet, which could help modders work on the game, as is the case of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Fans are wondering when will this happen, especially considering the fact that Bethesda quite quickly provides this type of tools to players. Skyrim received the Creation Kit after just three months. It was similar in the case of Fallout 4 (released in November 2015, Creation Kit came April 2016).
Since Starfield debuted in September last year, we can expect the tool to be released in the next few months. When this will happen is unknown, as Bethesda hasn't yet announced an official release date. Todd Howard himself announced a few days after the premiere that players will receive the Creation Kit in 2024. Will Starfield catch up with Cyberpunk 2077 in terms of available mods by then?
