Up to 500 People to Work on Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel
CD Projekt Red plans to put work on the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 (Project Orion) in the hands of some 350-500 developers. Much of the work will be handled by North American affiliates, including a studio set up in Boston.
The machine called (for now) Cyberpunk Orion is slowly getting started - during a conversation with investors, CD Projekt Group's vice president for finance Piotr Nielubowicz, admitted that the recently announced title will probably need between 350 and 500 developers, while comparing its scale to Cyberpunk 2077.
For comparison, about half a thousand developers also worked on the latter game, while The Witcher 3 started with a 150-person team, which over time grew by another hundred developers.
Most likely Piotr Nielubowicz is talking about developers employed by CD Projekt Red on a full-time basis, although additional helpers will also be involved, including actors or third-party studios. The final number of employees who contributed to the third installment of Geralt of Rivia's adventures exceeded 1,500, so we're talking about an army of people.
Piotr Nielubowicz also mentioned the creation of the CD Projekt Red North America branch, which will consist not only of the current office in Vancouver, Canada, but also a newly created headquarters in Boston. It is already known that its formation will be handled by among others, Pawel Sasko - chief quest designer for Cyberpunk 2077 - along with a group of veterans from CD Projekt RED.
It's difficult to determine who might be going overseas, but I would assumeit would be people involved in developing levels or mechanics. It's doubtful that story developers will be among them, since so far the storylines of CD Projekt Red's most important works have been prepared in Polish, as confirmed, among others, by Marcin Blacha, who heads the screenwriters responsible for Cyberpunk 2077 or The Witcher 3.
