1666 Amsterdam is the New Game From Ancestors The Humankind Odyssey Dev?
Developer Patrice Désilets suggested that his next project might be 1666: Amsterdam. The said action adventure game was abandoned a few years ago and its central role is to be played by the Devil with a big „D”.
Patrice Désilets - creator of Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, which was released on PCs in August this year (the console release will take place in December), as well as the first installments of the Assassin's Creed series - suggested that his next project could be 1666: Amsterdam (or Amsterdam 1666 ). This was the name of a well-known prototype that had been developed by THQ Montreal before the company went bankrupt in late 2012. The developer spoke on this subject (thanks, Eurogamer) during the panel at the Reboot Developer Red 2019 conference, which is currently taking place in the Banff National Park in the Canadian province of Alberta.
Patrice Désilets described this production as the 'new Assassin's Creed' and believed in it very much. After Ubisoft bought some of THQ's assets (along with the studio and the games it was developing), the project was suspended and the developer laid off. However, he decided to fight for the IP he had created. As he mentions himself, 1666: Amsterdam was so important to him that he was willing to risk even losing his own home.
"How serious am I [about revisiting 1666: Amsterdam]? I almost lost my house over it." He paused, people laughed. "I'm not joking. I want to do a game about the Devil," he went on. "I hate horror movies, I hate the subject matter for some reason, so it's a challenge for me. I love Amsterdam, I like the fact there was a year called 1666, and I want to do it. I want to do it," added the creator.
We still don't know much about this production, although a few years ago a short demo presenting the current version of the game appeared on the web (you can see it below). The main character was supposed to be the Devil, or his pupil, who sowed confusion in the eponymous city - in the year 1666, of course. Originally designed for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but if the work continued, it would have been ported to next-gen consoles as well.
Of course, it is worth remembering that Patrice Désilets does not have a budget comparable to THQ or Ubisoft - his studio, Panache Digital Games, is a relatively small company with several dozen employees. A new approach to this project will therefore require rethinking and probably abandoning many elements. Time will tell if this time the production can be completed.
