Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair Description
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is the second installment in the series of platform games started back in 2017 and inspired by classic productions representing this genre, such as Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country. The game was developed by the authors of the first part of the series, the Playtonic Games studio, and published by Team 17.
Plot
The main characters in Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair are the chameleon named Yooka and his companion Laylee the bat. This time the task of the protagonists is to obtain support from the Royal Stingdom in order to get to the titular Impossible Lair, where the sinister Capital B resides, whom they have to defeat.
Mechanics
In contrast to the first installment of the series, which was a 3D platformer, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is described by the creators as a "hybrid platformer" - next to the levels in which the action is observed from the side, there are three-dimensional stages. The game, however, does not differ from what players grew accustomed to when playing the original. One continues to explore diverse and picturesque locations, jumps over platforms, avoids numerous traps, solves environmental puzzles, and faces enemies trying to hinder protagonists' mission. While Yooka has a long tongue that allows him to attach himself to various surfaces, Laylee performs a sonic attack and can cover short distances in the air when flapping the wings.
Technical aspects
Like the first part of the series, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair has colorful visuals in an eye-pleasing cartoon-like style. During the game, players are accompanied by catchy soundtrack written by David Wise and Grant Kirkhope, known for their soundtracks for iconic games created by Rare studio.
