A new game in the Yo-Kai Watch franchise, this time developed for mobile platforms. It takes inspiration from another successful mobile adaptation of Nintendo’s franchise, Pokemon GO.

Yo-kai Watch World is an exploration RPG for mobile devices, set in the world of Yo-kai Watch franchise and clearly inspired by Pokemon GO. It is the work of Level-5 studio (Ni No Kuni: Hotroit Stories, Yo-kai Daijinten) and GungHo Online Entertainment team (Divine Gate, Summons Board).

Game mechanics

Like the popular Pokemon GO of Niantic studio, Yo-kai Watch World is about going out and observing the surroundings through a mobile device to catch creatures (in these case titular Yo-kai). Capturing them requires a fight based on simple rules, and Yo-kai can be trained to increase so they can face stronger adversaries.

One of Yo-kai Watch World’s interesting features comes with the ability to possess other players. This mechanic allows sending one’s Yo-kai with someone else to let it reach places its owner can’t. After its return, it can bring a companion for a player’s collection or a different type of gift. Additionally, there is an option of planting virtual trees that in time will luring more creatures.

Yo-kai Watch World offers only multiplayer online experience.

Technical aspects

Just like Pokemon GO, Yo-kai Watch World requires a mobile device with GPS and alternate reality support. It also uses unusual visuals, limited to a user interface and three-dimensional models (mainly for Yo-kai), which are put on the image of real-world locations. It still retains the atmosphere of the original Yo-kai Watch games.
