Yakuza 3 Remastered is a remastered version of the third entry in the series of action-adventure games developed by Sega. The title focuses on the Japanese criminal underworld and it was published on PS4.
Plot
The main protagonist of Yakuza 3 Remastered is Kazuma Kiryu, the main character of previous entries in the series. After the events depicted in Yakuza 2, he decided to cut his ties with the criminal underworld. He founded an orphanage on the island of Okinawa. There, he wanted to have a peaceful life with Haruka, his adopted daughter. Sadly, Yakuza-related politicians took interest in Kiryu’s orphanage and attempted to take it over. When a man that looks like Kazuma’s deceased father shoots Daigo Dojima, the leader of Tojo clan, Kiryu once again finds himself in the middle of the war between the gangs of Tokyo.
Mechanics
In Yakuza 3 Remastered, the action is presented from a third-person perspective. The players can roam through two fictional districts, Ryukyugai in Okinawa (it’s inspired by Makishi) and Kamurocho in Tokyo (based on Kabukicho). Although the locations have an open structure, the protagonist can’t use vehicles – he can travel only on foot. Story missions, accompanied by many side missions and activities, are the pillar of the game. Kazuma can fight on an arena, play bowling or pool, leave some money in a casino or play classic Sega arcade games. The Dragon of Dojima can also test his skills in Karaoke, golf, or fishing.
Similarly to previous entries in the series, melee fights are very important. During the battles, it is important to combine attacks into spectacular combos. Kazuma can use melee weapons (he can equip up to three weapons and freely switch between them during the fight) that can be upgraded by using a crafting system. For completing activities, Kiryu receives experience points that enable him to increase the number of available attacks. The game features chase sequences as well – in order to reach the target, the players must control the protagonist’s stamina and observe the traffic in order to avoid bystanders.
Technical aspects
When working on Yakuza 3: Remastered, the developers didn’t change the story and the mechanics of the game. They focused only on improving the quality of the graphics. The game works in 1080p resolution with stable sixty frames per second.
