Xenoraid
A classic two-dimensional vertical shoot-em-all, taking place in a science-fiction universe. Xenogears was developed by an independent Finnish studio 10tons.
Xenoraid for iOS, SWITCH and etc. is a retro-stylized two-dimensional shooter with vertical scrolling. The game received a blanket release on all of the major platforms (including mobile devices). Xenoraid was created by an independent Finish studio 10tons, known for Crimsonland, or a logical-arcade series Sparkle.
Plot
The plot of Xenoraid takes us to near future – to 2032, in which the game universe had its first galactic war. When Earth is attacked by a small Alien fleet, the humans field star fighters, created by equipping civilian space ships with a wide range of weaponry, such as cannons, machine guns, rocket launchers, and other instruments of destruction. However, the first mission is only a foreshadowing of events yet to come – a great war with Alien invaders.
Mechanics
The mechanics of Xenoraid are based on classic side-scrollers, popular in the era of arcade machines. As a result, the game is limited to eliminating hordes of smaller enemies, intersected with boss encounters that require obstinacy and a bit of tactical approach. The gameplay is especially focused around constant action and dynamic firefights. In order to make the game less boring and predictable, the developers introduced procedurally-generated levels, so every approach to a level can take a different course, especially since we cannot learn the enemy behavior by heart.
Our ships are not a real military-grade equipment – the installed weaponry is not state-of-the-art, and overheat quite often, so during the game we cannot just constantly fire in the direction of anything that moves. Short, aimed bursts are the key to success. An interesting feature of the game is that we take over a wing – four units with different weaponry, between which we can switch depending on the current needs and the type of enemy. As per the modern standards of the genre, Xenoraid allows upgrading of individual ships and weapons, so our squadron can face increasingly difficult challenges.
Game Modes
Xenoraid allows singleplayer playthrough (the player can switch between the four fighters), as well as introduces a local Co-op mode for up to four players. However, this mode is only available on PC and the eighth generation consoles.
Technical Aspects
Xenoraid for iOS, SWITCH and etc. offers typical visuals, synonymous with most of the modern representatives of the genre. The visuals are inspired by classic side-scrollers, but contain a large number of eye-catching explosions, flares, and modern graphical effects.
