IGN: 7.1 / 10 by Leif Johnson
Dead Star has the basics of combat and ship balance right, to the point that even losses have their fun moments. Its primary shortcoming is that it allows too great an advantage for pre-made groups, which is especially a problem considering the wonky matchmaker.
G4@Syfygames: 7.2 / 10
It may not be your cup of tea, but it still manages to be greater than the sum of its parts. Sometimes.

Dead Star Description
Dead Star published on PS4 and PC is a multiplayer space shooter by Armature studio.
Plot
As Dead Star is a multiplayer-oriented game, its storyline serves only as a pretext for action, which takes place near a dying star that soon will transform into a supernova. The vision of the imminent disaster pushes every spaceship owner for using the remains of the region’s resources in order to escape, even if it means killing.
Mechanics
Gameplay in Dead Star for PS4 and PC features two teams composed of up to 10 players fighting each other. Basic mechanics resemble those in old-school arcade shooters. You move in two dimensions with the top-view of your spaceship. The ship’s movement is independent from shooting – one does not influence the other.
The creators enriched the classic solutions by some modern elements from contemporary productions. Primarily, maps are generated procedurally, so each battle features a different level. Maps are filled with a wide range of obstacles, dangers, and structures that give different bonuses. For example, taking over a mine means getting supplies of iron ores necessary for defence systems upgrade. Moreover, you can find old wrecks that hide valuable technologies.
Players can control many spaceships differing in capabilities and equipment. The game features a customisation system, pilot trainings, and units upgrade – you can adjust you ship to your needs.
