X-Men vs. Street Fighter is a flighting game developed by Capcom. The title, based on the mechanics developed for X-Men: Children of the Atom and Marvel Super Heroes, gave rise to the Marvel vs. Capcom series.
Mechanics
As in the other fighting games from Capcom, in X-Men vs. Street Fighter we are fighting in two-dimensional arenas. Before starting the competition we choose two characters - however, in contrast to the version designed for arcade machines, on Sony's console, we cannot switch between them during the fight, because the second competitor enters the battlefield only at certain moments; in addition, the clash consists not of one, but two or three rounds.
Seventeen heroes are at our disposal, including fighters known from Street Fighter (such as Dhalsim, Chun-Li, and Ryu), as well as the title X-Men (including Rogue, Gambit and Sabretooth). The combat system is based on an extensive system of combos; additionally, after charging a special bar (Hyper Combo Gauge), we can take advantage of powerful attacks, often able to change the fate of many battles.
Game modes
Learning the ropes of X-Men vs. Street Fighter is facilitated by the presence of Training Mode. In addition to the basic gameplay variants of Arcade Mode (where we take part in a series of duels trying to reach the final boss) and Versus Mode (which enables us to challeng another player within the local multiplayer mode), the game offers a Survival Mode mode, in which we face endless waves of adversaries.
Technical aspects
The sprites of Capcom's heroes were taken from Street Fighter Alpha 2 and in order to match the combat capabilities of these warriors with those of the mutants, the devs were forced to make changes in the strength of their attacks). The source of inspiration for the models created by Marvel was the animated series X-Men - actors playing in it provided voices for their virtual counterparts.
