WRATH: Aeon of Ruin Description
WRATH: Aeon of Ruin is an old-school FPS, developed by 3D Realms and KillPixel studios. The former comprises experienced developers, whose portfolio includes such productions as the iconic Duke Nukem 3D, the classic Shadow Warrior, and the retro-style Ion Maiden shooter.
Plot
The action of WRATH: Aeon of Ruin takes place in a dark, fantasy universe. The protagonist arrives at the shore of the dying Old World. There he meets the Shepherd of Wandering Souls, who tasks him with dealing with the remaining Guardians.
Mechanics
In WRATH: Aeon of Ruin players observe the action from the first person perspective (FPP). The production focuses on eliminating hordes of horrifying enemies, which players can kill using nine types of firearms (the arsenal includes the classic double-barreled shotgun, as well as the Retcher, and Fangspitter-style guns, using teeth and cysts collected from the bodies of defeated enemies as missiles) and ten artefacts that provide the protagonist with supernatural abilities.
Exploration also plays an important role here; among the eighteen locations waiting to be visited (three of them serve as hubs, with which fifteen others are connected) players will find scary crypts, ancient ruins, and gloomy forests. During the game, players should have their constantly open, because both keys opening the passages to the next levels and various secrets were hidden across the in-game world.. It is worth noting that although the authors allow players to save the state of the game at any time, they can do it a limited number of times.
Game modes
In addition to the single player campaign WRATH: Aeon of Ruin has a competitive multiplayer mode and a cooperative mode for up to four players.
Technical aspects
WRATH: Aeon of Ruin is based on the Quake Engine technology. The whole thing has been adapted to modern standards as far as possible, thanks to which the visuals are not bound to discourage the players. On their adventure, players are accompanied by atmospheric soundtrack written by Andrew Hulshult (Quake Champions, Rise of the Triad, DUSK) and Bjorn Jacobsen (Cyberpunk 2077, EVE Online, Hitman).
