World of Darkness

World of Darkness is a dark MMO by the creators of EVE Online. It is an adaptation of a popular line of role-playing games by White Wolf. Contrary to the name, however, the whole was based only on the first title from the cycle, that is Vampire: the Masquerade (in Poland published as Wampir: Maskarada).

At first glance, the title World of Darkness resembles our reality. However, these are only appearances, because this universe is inhabited by a number of supernatural creatures, such as vampires, werewolves, mummies and queers. Here the souls of the dead turn into ghosts, and some people had the ability to shape reality and became magicians. All these beings remain hidden from the majority of society and secretly influence the fate of the whole world.

In World of Darkness players play vampires. The father of these beings was the Biblical Cain. For killing his brother God punished him with immortality and an eternal desire for blood. The game world is inhabited by thirteen vampire clans, whose founders were people transformed by Cain himself. Each clan is a closed organization and has its own powers and spheres of influence. The Cainites (because this is how they call themselves these beings) are divided into two main sects - Camarilla and Sabbath. The first one wants to keep vampires in order and to keep them secret. For this purpose it created the so-called Masquerade, means the rule which forbids revealing to people the truth about supernatural beings that inhabited their world. The Sabbath, in turn, believes that vampires should rule the Earth and is in opposition to Camarilla. In addition, Jyhad, a war between ancient cainites, transformed before the Biblical flood, is taking place deep in the shadows. Legend has it that one day Gehenna's time will come and all the forefathers will wake up to devour their own children.
