Will You Snail? is a fast-paced platform game, which in terms of difficulty and action is close to Super Meat Boy series. It was developed by an independent developer, Jonas Tyroller, and is his first solo commercial project.
Plot
Will You Snail? takes us on a journey into virtual reality, created by an artificial intelligence called Squid. The game's main character is an angular snail named Shelly, who has been trapped there. Trying to escape, Shelly has to face numerous challenges prepared by Squid, along the way learning more and more about her and, most importantly, learning about her evil plans that threaten the entire humanity.
Game mechanics
Will You Snail? is a side-scrolling game. In each of the five "worlds", which we visit during the game, we find a series of levels, requiring from us mainly dexterity and cunning. Shelly must jump on platforms, avoid extremely numerous (and difficult to avoid) traps, shoot enemies, and from time to time also solve clever puzzles. Interestingly, the latter isn't required, so players who want to keep their brain cells free can simply skip it. Each "world" ends with a battle with a powerful boss, which puts our skills to the test.
Squid not only comments on our actions on a regular basis (often mocking us at the same time), but also throws obstacles under our feet. By imitating its ability to predict your next move, the AI can set traps in places that look safe in a second. This means that even if you're constantly on your guard, you'll still get killed quite often. The game offers a number of difficulty levels; in addition to several described as different variants of easy, there is a special mode that adjusts the challenge level to our actions.
Technical aspects
Graphics in Will You Snail? is in a characteristic "neon" style, bringing to mind the TRON film series. We can listen to a dynamic electronic soundtrack here.
