White Noise Online is a PC and X360 release of a heavily expanded version of White Noise: A Tale of Horror, which debuted at the end of 2012 on Xbox Live Indie Games. Both games are developed by Spanish Milkstone Studios, known from the Little Racers , a series of arcade races, and many simple arcade games for the Xbox 360.
Plot
We play as one of the detectives, who get to a dark location with the task of finding clues hidden there and to solve this place's mystery. This seemingly simple mission, however, is hampered by the fact that during the game we are only equipped with a flashlight, and our footsteps are followed by a supernatural and deadly creature.
Mechanics
The mechanics in White Noise Online are a development of ideas known from the original, inspired by the well-known free game Slender: The Eight Pages. We observe the action from the first-person perspective, and the gameplay boils down to exploring and searching for the aforementioned clues, to which we are guided by the characteristic sound (the titular white noise). If we meet a monster, we must save ourselves immediately by escaping - a longer contact ends in our immediate death. When this happens, we can only observe the rest of the participants in the game as a spirit.
The main difference to the original version of the game is the introduction of a cooperative online mode, in which up to 4 players can participate. This gives the gameplay a slightly different character, because during the game we are no longer alone and we can communicate while searching for clues and warn against imminent danger. Players have more than 15 playable characters at their disposal, each of which has its own skills. The game takes place in several different locations, in six different scenarios.
Game modes
Despite the title, the game offers not only coop mode, but also the option to play solo.
Technical aspects
In terms of the graphics, White Noise Online, released on PC and X360, offers better visuals than its predecessor. The graphics have not undergone any revolutionary changes, but the locations themselves have become much more varied, and the game features an original soundtrack. The special replay mode is an interesting addition - when a game is over, we can follow the actions of individual players.
