WCW Mayhem PS1

The first installment of wrestling game series developed by Electronic Arts. The title is based on the World Championship Wrestling license and enables the biggest stars of the ring to compete in several types of duels.

Mechanics

The roster of more than fifty available wrestlers includes all WCW stars. The playeres can control Goldberg, Rey Mysterio Jr., Booker T, Britt Hart or Disco Inferno on the ring. In addition, they can use the available character creation mode at any time and create their own wrestler, which they will then try to reach for the champion belts. Each fighter has a unique finishing blow, available after charging a special bar.

The combat mechanic developed by Kodiak Interactive offers punches and kicks, blocking, as well as the use of various throws and holds - different depending on the pressed combination of keys, current situation in the ring and the position of wrestlers.

Game modes

WCW Mayhem offers 1 on 1 duel, as well as participation in two-person team clashes and fights with three professionals. The devs have also prepared a simple career mode, "Quest for the Best", where our wrestler threads the path from zero to federation hero, knocking out subsequent rivals at gala and TV show.

Technical aspects

WCW Mayhem makes full use of the federation's license. The devs prepared realistic, well-reproduced character models, as well as all characteristic PPV galas. The title is distinguished by a commentary by experts, Bobby Heenan and Tony Schiavone, who discuss the events in the ring. It is also distinguished by a system of codes, which unlock tournaments modeled on the gala federations organized at the end of the 20th century.
